This
is the picture of Memey, the perpetually jolly, pot bellied man who lives all
alone in his small hut. He is the caretaker of a small bridge just above his
hut.
Since our off-road biking trail starts from his hut, we see him daily outside his hut, so much so that our daily biking excursion has become synonymous with Memey and would be incomplete without a friendly ‘Kuzuzangpo Memey’ in unison from us and a humble ‘Kuzuzangpo la’ in reply from Memey before we venture into the rough trails.
Perhaps, he has his Abi (his wife), children or even grandchildren. But during the last one year of our daily biking excursion, save for himself and some stray dogs, we did not see anybody with him. He has withstood the scorching summers, worst monsoon weathers and cold winters in his hut without any complaints but perpetual smile on his friendly face.
Who knows? he might have inquisitiveness to know about the world beyond his simple hut and even have some materialistic desires and mundane worries. But even if he does, he seems not to show any signs of such weaknesses. His carefree lifestyle without any sign of worry or sadness provides a profound insight into the word known as ‘contentment’ that naturally provokes gut-wrenching emotion and happiness in us every day. Memey’s magic presence is quintessentially our biking group’s life. Kuzuzangpo to you once again, Memey!
In a country of GNH, there are at least 90% of our people are like him.
ReplyDeleteand our kuzuzangpo today was even more louder and meaningful! :) I agree with you Bkt.
