Our Mountain Trail Biking (MTB) Group celebrated our anniversary in recognition of the completion of one year of dedicated mountain biking the day before yesterday (Saturday, 6th October 2012). It was not a grand celebration.. in fact, it would not be qualified to be called a celebration at all to an outsider, because, all that we did was ride together into the jungles and shared our simple refreshments after cutting a pancake!
Nevertheless, it was our own way of marking the occasion in remembrance of the day that we ‘purchased’ health one year ago by investing in mountain bikes! It was a day for remembering the trials and tribulations that we experienced besides the exuberance and the joy of our passion by riding the limits of sanity over the plains of paved roads and climbing and descending the treacherous off-road footpaths, the tweaks and mishaps to our bikes and bodies and the rollercoaster bumps up and down over rocks and roots whether in the blazing sun or the pouring rains. It was also an occasion to remember the camaraderie that we experienced through having been brought together by fate because of our common interest in biking, the communal feeling of togetherness that we developed through encouragement of eachother and the huge amount of excitement, thrills and spills that was a part of our life every day for the last one full year! We are happy that we did our part in saving the air from pollution so that the taxi driver who shouted at us for riding on the road can breath some fresh air when he gets out of his taxi!!
I am proud to display the overall summary of our individual achievements auomatically recorded by the iPhone application Endomondo. (Please note: the statistics below pertains to an individual biker and not a combined one of the group)
The regular members should be proud to analyse the statistics of our achievements above, sincerely recorded by the iPhone application Endomondo during our regular workouts. It is heart warming to note that out of 365 days, we biked regularly on 224 days covering a total distance of 2,889.47 KMs at an average speed of 11.27 Km per hour individually. The distance covered converts to covering a distance of 0.072 part, if we are making a trip around the world and 0.008 part, if we are journeying to the moon! Considering that we were riding mostly offroad and only occasionally on normal roads, it is indeed, quite an achievement!
We burnt a total of 1,31,473 kilo-calories individually which is equivalent to the calories of 243 burgers! Although no changes would be physically visible in most of us, it however, indicates that we have become much more healthier, much more energetic and gained much more stamina than what we initially started with.
Congratulations to all the members of our local MTB Group! The statistics are a credit to us!
In recognition of the occasion of our anniversary, I would like to take my readers through a pictorial journey of the adventures of our group and the various scenes and memories that has been captured on our journey of fulfilment and gratification in the bike rides!
Happy viewing!

We even try to catch the setting sun! |

It's turnwise!.. where there is a a road, the bikes carry us. Where there is none, we carry the bikes! |
|
A time to gossip about everything that is happening in the town which does not concern us, anyway! |
|
It's a constant battle over the right to road...the motor car drivers sometimes not even considering the bikers as a part of the traffic! |
|
No separate cameraman required... It's a self clicker app on the iPhone which clicks when you clap your hands! Talk about convenience while biking! |
|
NO! The welcome arrangement is NOT for us... but for some VIP. We just happened to pass by! :-) |

Off-road riding is more enjoyable and adventurous on a mountain bike than ridng on the paved road. |
